Mick:

There are only two restaurants on Eurodam that charge — Tamarind (dinner only) and Pinnacle Grill. That leaves plenty of no-charge alternatives including the main dining room, the Lido, a pizzeria and Canaletto Italian restaurant.

Well, I never liked the idea of a "surcharge" for restaurants. It always seems like they start out with one or two charge restaurants, and before you know it half will be extra charge and half not.
I would rather pay more for the cruise and not have to deal with the extra charges.

One other question, as you can see it in this image, also when looking at the virtual tour on the Eurodam mini-site (eurodam.hollandamerica.com) The curved bar areas with the glass, located in this post's image to the left of the bright green wall... Do you know what this is? It looks like an area that would perhaps be a small "show kitchen" area. The virtual tour zooms in on one, but only shows cabinets.
Any additional info you can provide?

Thanks Roland. Do you know if in the coming weeks a full lunch menu will be posted on here as well? (And on the topic of alternate restaurants, and more info on prices and/or menus for Canaletto's?)
I love that the posts on here have become more frequent. Keep up the great work!

InTheWASide:

Tamarind features a dinner menu that mixes Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian dishes. The lunch menu will be different, featuring dim sum, a Chinese cuisine consisting of a variety of dumplings, steamed dishes and other light fare.

Do you know if the menu is going to be the same for lunch, or if it will be different selections, like the Pinnacle Grill offers?

Phantom:

According to Holland America Line, they don't use any MSG in any of their food. So enjoy the dim sum and the pan-Asian food in Tamarind with impunity.

What is the ship's policy on MSG? I have a bad reaction to it, and find it very often in oriental cuisine, which might well make Tamarind off limits to me anyway.

Phantom:

Since Tamarind only seats 142, we strongly suggest reservations if you want a dim sum dumplings at lunch or sushi for supper.

Do you suggest that guests make reservations for lunch/dinner since this will probably be a popular spot?
